EnCap Investments LP contributed a large part of the recent increase in the year-to-date tally for domestic buyout and mezzanine shops. The Houston, Texas-based firm closed EnCap Energy Capital Fund VIII LP at its $3.5 billion hard cap. The fundraising total so far in 2011 stands at about $6.17 billion.

Snow Phipps Group LLC also obtained $612.7 million in pledges for Snow Phipps Fund II LP. In addition, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. received $525 million for its KKR North American XI Fund from the Oregon Investment Council and Palo Alto, Calif.-based Altamont Capital Partners closed its debut fund at $500 million.

Thomson Reuters, which publishes Buyouts magazine, counted 20 LBO deals from Jan. 26 through Feb. 8. The four with known financial terms combined for $849.6 million.

A unit of Blackstone Group LP acquired Polymer Group Inc., a North Carolina-based maker of nonwoven fabrics, from MatlinPatterson Global Advisers LLC. The deal had a rank value of $652.9 million. Deal volume in 2011 stands at about $7.7 billion. Buyouts counted 777 completed LBO deals for all of 2010, and those with disclosed terms combined for $79.42 billion.
