Megan Bethke joins Mousse Partners from APG Asset Management

  • Bethke joined APG AM in 2013
  • Joins growing PE team at Mousse
  • Last year Mousse hired ex-Carlyle exec Parker Hayden

Megan Bethke, a former PE LP at APG Asset Management, joined Mousse Partners, a family office and prolific venture investor.

Bethke joined Mousse in April, her LinkedInprofile shows. She’d been a senior portfolio manager in private equity at APG Asset Management since 2013.

APG AM is searching for a successor for Bethke, Jennifer Bainbridge, a spokeswoman for APG AM, said. She said Bethke’s departure does not indicate any change in strategy.

Bethke joined the APG Asset Management team as it was building out its PE team after its parent, massive Dutch pension APG, sold its stake in fund-of-funds AlpInvest Partners. Rather than outsource its PE-fund investing, it decided to build an in-house team.

In 2013, APG hired Greg Jania, formerly of WP Global Partners, to lead fund investing, reporting to global private equity chief Iain Leigh. The group in 2013 also hired Michael Dymond, formerly of Universities Superannuation Scheme, as a senior portfolio manager.

Mousse, meanwhile, keeps a low profile even as it staffs up. No one from Mousse returned a call for comment this week.

The firm was formed in 1994 by Charles Heilbronn, a member of the Wertheimerfamily, which owns Chanel. A Bloomberg profile lists Heilbronn as chairman and president of Mousse Partners.

Last year Mousse hired former Carlyle Group Principal Parker Hayden as a managing director and head of North America/Europe private equity, Hayden’s LinkedIn profile says.

Mousse Partners hired Suzi Kwon Cohen in 2016 as chief investment officer, Buyouts previously reported. Kwon Cohen formerly led North American private equity at GIC, Singapore’s sovereign-wealth fund.

In January, Mousse Partners invested in BeautyCounter, a provider of skin care and beauty products.
