NewMedia SPARK plc (SPARK) has appointed John Maples, MP as a non-executive director. Maples is the MP for Stratford-on-Avon in the UK and is a member of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee and Council Member of the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House).
Maples previous roles include Treasury Minister, deputy chairman of the Conservative party, Shadow Foreign Secretary and Shadow Secretary of State for Health and Defence.
Maples other current directorships include non-executive chairman of Advanced Visual Technology plc and non-executive director of Value Retail plc and Agatha Christie Ltd. Previously he has held board positions with SEP Industrial Holdings, the quoted engineering and distribution company, and Saatchi & Saatchi Government Communications Worldwide. He is also a qualified barrister.
Maples replaces Per Lundberg who has resigned as a non-executive director. Lundberg was previously chairman of Cell ICD and was appointed to the SPARK board following its acquisition of Cell in March 2000.
