NYC pension system promotes Doñé to lead private markets

  • Alex Doñé will lead PE, RE and infrastructure portfolios
  • Promoted to lead private equity in 2014
  • Works with Eneasz Kadziela on private equity

The New York City Comptroller promoted the head of private equity for the retirement system, Alex Doñé, to lead the private markets portfolio that includes PE, real estate and infrastructure, a spokesman said.

Doñé’s title is now group head of private markets within the comptroller office’s Bureau of Asset Management, according to a statement from Comptroller Scott Stringer.

The Comptroller oversees the $162.1 billion New York City Pension Funds, made up of five different pension funds.

Doñé joined the comptroller’s office in 2012 and was promoted to lead the private equity portfolio in 2014. He replaced former private equity chief Barry Miller. Doñé previously led the emerging managers program at the system.

Prior to the city system, Doñé worked at Clearlake Capital Group, KPMG Corporate Finance and Merrill Lynch & Co. He also worked for two years as presidential appointee to the Obama Administration in the U.S. Department of Commerce.

The system’s private equity team has gone through turnover in the last few years. As it stands now, Doñé works with Eneasz Kadziela on private equity. It’s not clear who else works on the private equity team.

Last year, Doñé got a pay increase to $280,000 a year, a 75 percent jump from his previous salary of $160,000. Kadziela also got a bump to $130,000 from $95,000, Buyouts previously reported. It’s not clear if Doñé will get another raise as part of his promotion.
