PRIVATE EQUITY FIRMS

Investment management firm 3i Group Plc hired Christoph Rinnert, Michael Bernard and Rutger Vos as advisers in its private equity business in Europe and North America. Rinnert joins the company’s Frankfurt team as a senior associate. He joins from wealth management firm Rothschild, where he was an associate in the mergers and acquisition team. Bernard, who was appointed an associate in 3i’s New York investment team, joins from Morgan Stanley, where he was a member of the healthcare group. Vos, based in Amsterdam, joins 3i’s Benelux team. Vos previously worked in JPMorgan Chase & Co’s Benelux mergers and acquisition team in London.

BBX Capital Partners has hired Nathan Dapeer as a principal. Previously, Dapeer worked at Blue Sea Capital and Brockway Moran & Partners.

Healthcare-focused private equity firm BelHealth Investment Partners has hired Marc Aronstein as a managing director. Previously, Aronstein worked at The Marwood Group, where he recently served as a managing director and co-head of private equity investing and M&A.

Blackstone announced that Bennett Goodman has joined its board of directors. Bennett is a co-founder of GSO Capital Partners, Blackstone’s credit investment platform.

Darby Private Equity, the private equity arm of Franklin Templeton Investments, has named Michael Wallace as managing director of marketing and investor relations. Prior to joining Darby, Wallace was a managing director Pinnacle Trust Partners LLC.

Duke Street has hired Stuart McMinnies as a partner. Previously, McMinnies served as a partner at 3i.

First Reserve named Alex Krueger as co-chief executive officer and president of the firm. He shares the co-CEO role with William Macaulay, who has also taken on the role of chairman. Krueger has been with First Reserve for 16 years, most recently in a leadership role for the private equity portfolio.

Transportation-focused private equity firm Greenbriar Equity Group LLC has hired Michael Weiss as a managing director. Prior to joining Greenbriar, Weiss worked in Merrill Lynch & Co’s financial sponsors and leveraged finance group.

Gryphon Investors has hired Robert E. Grady as a partner, effective March 2. In his new position, Grady will head the firm’s general industries group. Previously, Grady worked at the Cheyenne Capital Fund, where he served as a general partner and managing director. Also, Grady is a former partner, managing director and global head of venture and growth capital at The Carlyle Group.

Pantheon Ventures Ltd has recruited Brandon Boddy as a director. Boddy succeeds Adrian Smith. Previously, Boddy worked as an investment advisor at Jordan Capital Markets and Canaccord Capital Corp.

Spectrum Group Management LLC, which focuses on investing in the distressed, special situations and secured lending credit markets, has hired Russell Diamond as a managing director. Previously, Diamond worked at Gates Capital Management, where he was responsible for marketing and business development efforts.

Warburg Pincus LLC has hired Andrew Higginson as a senior adviser, primarily focusing on new investments in the European consumer and retail sectors. Higginson will also advise on the firm’s investments in other sectors, including financial services and technology, media, and telecommunications. He is currently chairman of supermarket chain Wm Morrison Supermarkets Plc and Internet retailer N Brown Group Plc.

PORTFOLIO COMPANIES

Alex Apparel Group, which is backed by Atlantic Street Capital, has hired Colleen Kelly as CEO. She replaces company co-founder Dean Brizel, who will become chairman. Based in New York City, Alex Apparel is a designer of women’s evening wear.

BlackLine, which is backed by Silver Lake Sumeru, has hired Mark Partin as CFO. Partin recently served as CFO of Fiberlink Communications, which was sold to IBM. Charles Best, BlackLine’s former CFO, remains with the company as chief accounting officer.

Camber Corp, a portfolio company of New Mountain Capital, has hired Philip O. Nolan as CEO. Nolan replaces Camber co-founder Walter Batson, who remains chairman. Nolan is the former chairman and CEO of Stanley Inc. Based in Huntsville, Ala., Camber is a professional services organization.

Things Remembered has named President and CEO Lisa Gavales to the role of chairman. Previous Chairman Michael Anthony has stepped down from the board. Cleveland-based Things Remembered is a personalized gift retailer that is backed by Madison Dearborn Partners.

SERVICE PROVIDERS

Altus Group Ltd, a Canadian provider of software and data solutions for the commercial real estate industry, has named Raymond C. Mikulich chairman of its board. Mikulich succeeds Harvey S. Naglie, who has been chairman since 2005. Mikulich is a managing partner and chief investment officer at Ridgeline Capital Group.

Brock Capital Group has hired Phillip Harrington Jr. as a senior managing director focused on corporate and fiduciary advisory services, M&A consulting, and private equity and venture capital. Harrington previously worked as an executive vice president at CA Technologies.

Peter Jobse, president and CEO of The Center for Innovative Technology, said he will step down at the end of the year. Prior to joining CIT, Jobse worked at EDS and was a founder of ArcSight, which was later acquired by Hewlett-Packard. He joined CIT in October 2002 as chief operating officer and executive vice president.

Commonfund Capital Inc, a Commonfund subsidiary, has hired Celeste R. Barone as chief financial officer. Previously, Barone served as managing director of finance and chief compliance officer for Pomona Capital.

E. Thomas Massey and Marc van der Lubbe have joined Evercore’s investment banking business. Both executives join Evercore in May and will be based in London. Massey will be a senior MD and will lead Evercore’s chemicals advisory franchise globally, while van der Lubbe will be an MD in the chemicals group focusing primarily on Europe. Massey was most recently Citgroup’s head of European M&A and van der Lubbe was an MD at Citi, where he headed the investment banking franchise for the bank’s chemicals clients in the EMEA region.

Global private placement agent and investment advisory firm First Avenue Partners has named Patrick Shuttleworth as a vice president. Previously, he worked at Zouk Capital.

Jaguar Growth Partners has appointed Eva Lo as senior vice president of operations and chief compliance officer and Bruce Wolfson as general counsel. Previously, Lo was at Rockwell Partners LLC, while Wolfson worked at Bingham McCutchen (now known as Morgan Lewis & Bockius).

Equity crowdfunding platform OurCrowd has named Anthony DeChellis as president. DeChellis is the former CEO of Private Banking Americas at Credit Suisse. 

PROMOTIONS

The Gores Group has made a number of internal promotions, a source told BuyoutsDavid Leeney is now principal and head of global origination; James Oh has become a principal of leveraged finance; Chris Sznewajs and Gil Vassoly are now principals of operations; Anthony Clegg is now vice president of M&A (Europe); and Scott Erickson is now vice president of origination, the source said.

H.I.G. Growth Partners LLC, the growth capital unit of H.I.G. Capital LLC, has promoted Nik Shah to managing director. Shah joined H.I.G. in 2007 and has been responsible for investments in industries including technology, digital media, marketing and business services.
