PRIVATE EQUITY FIRMS

Carlyle Group named Sandra J. Horbach co-head of the U.S. buyout business, joining Peter Clare. Horbach was formerly head of the consumer and retail team. She succeeds Allan M. Holt, who becomes chairman of U.S. buyouts and chairman of the investment committee for Carlyle’s U.S. buyout funds. Jay W. Sammons, a senior member of the consumer and retail team, succeeds Ms. Horbach.

Coller Capital appointed Michael Schad head of investment management while David Platter and Francois Aguerre become co-heads of origination. Luca Salvato and Sebastien Burdel, investment partners at the firm, are leaving.

DFJ Growth added David Dubick as a principal. For two years, Dubick has worked with early-stage tech companies at Lightspeed Venture Partners.

FOS Capital Partners  named Raymond Wu vice president. Wu and the firm’s investment team manage Future of Surgery Fund, which is focused on backing medical and surgical tech opportunities.

Harbor Beach Capital, the Fort Lauderdale, Florida, private equity firm, has launched. Brian Urbanek, a former managing director at Sun Capital Partners, is managing partner at Harbor Beach.

Pacific Alternative Asset Management hired Carrie McCabe as a managing director. McCabe previously was a senior adviser to McKinsey & Co.

Partners Capital said Richard Scarinci is joining senior management in September 2016 as a partner. Scarinci previously was a managing director and a co-portfolio manager within the hedge fund solutions group at Blackstone Alternative Asset Management.

Perella Weinberg Partners named Alex Tracy a managing director for its advisory business. Previously, Tracy was a managing director at Miller Buckfire & Co.

Turnspire Capital Partners named Abel S. Osorio a principal and Maurice W. Murphy an operating partner. Osorio is co-founder of Montserrat Capital Management. Murphy is currently chairman of Avkem International and founder of MWM Global Partners.

PORTFOLIO COMPANIES

Apothecary by Design, a portfolio company of BelHealth Investment Partners, named Richard Friedman executive chairman. Friedman is a former chairman of Aureus Healthcare Services, a past BelHealth portfolio company.

Clinical Innovations, the Murray, Utah, medical-device company focused on labor and delivery, named Glenn Weatherley vice president and managing director of Clinical Innovations Europe. Weatherley formerly was vice president of international markets at Insulet Corp. Clinical Innovations is backed by Pritzker Group Private Capital.

J. McLaughlin, the New York sportswear brand backed by Brentwood Associates, appointed Mary Ellen Coyne CEO. Previously, McLaughlin was chief merchandising officer of the POLO women’s and children’s divisions at Ralph Lauren.

MDLive, the Sunrise, Florida provider of virtual health services, named Sylvan Waller senior vice president and chief medical officer. Waller is founder and was CEO at Alii Healthcare. MDLive’s backers included Bedford Funding, Heritage Group, Sutter Health and Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors.

Phoenix Rehabilitation and Health Services appointed Peter Grabaskas chief operating officer. Grabaskas was formerly executive vice president of development. Phoenix, with locations in Pennsylvania and Virginia, is a portfolio company of Pittsburgh-based 3 Rivers Capital.

Roberto Cavalli SpA named Gian Giacomo Ferraris CEO. He succeeds Renato Semerari, who left due to “divergences on the company’s development strategy,” a statement said. Francesco Trapani also resigned as chairman of Robert Cavalli, effective Sept. 10. Clessidra, an Italian private equity firm, acquired Roberto Cavalli, an Italian fashion house, in April 2015.

Tijuana Flats Tex-Mex restaurants parent TJF USA appointed Larry Ryback CEO. Ryback, formerly of True Food Kitchen and P.F. Chang’s, will report to Steven Flyer, the company’s chairman and partner at AUA Private Equity Partners, which backs Tijuana Flats.

Trigo Group, which is backed by Ardian, named Francis Niss chairman of its supervisory board. Niss is former president of Liebherr Group‘s aerospace and transportation unit. Trigo provides operational quality management solutions for the manufacturing sector.

SERVICE PROVIDERS

Houlihan Lokey hired Jon McCarter as a managing director at its Houston office. Previously, McCarter was a partner in transaction advisory services at EY.

iboss Cybersecurity, the San Diego provider of data-breach-detection solutions, named John M. Connolly and Frank Fanzilli to the board. Connolly is a former managing director and operating group head at Bain Capital Ventures. Fanzilli is a former managing director at Credit Suisse.

Lazard Ltd appointed Christopher Mulshine a managing director in private capital advisory, based in New York. The group manages fundraising for private equity and real estate firms, acting as adviser and placement agent.

MetLife Investment Management named Thomas Metzler a managing director in its institutional client group. Metzler joins MetLife from J.P. Morgan Chase.

Nepsis Capital Management hired Ken Harpell as vice president of adviser services. Previously, Harpell served as broker relations director for MNsure.

Woodbridge International named Georges Hazan to lead its Paris office. Hazan founded and was CEO and managing director of various firms that provided financial advice to clients including family businesses, multinational companies and startups.

LIMITED PARTNERS

California Public Employees’ Retirement System named Marcie Frost  CEO of the pension fund, effective Oct. 3. Previously, Frost served as a director at Washington State Department of Retirement Systems. She will succeed Anne Stausboll who retired at the end of June. Doug Hoffner is interim CEO of CalPERS.

PROMOTIONS

Catalyst Investors promoted David Gordon to vice president, Mia Hegazy to senior associate and Kapil Desai to associate.

Cressey & Co promoted Dave Rogero to partner. Rogero has been with the Cressey team since 2008.

Hammond, Kennedy, Whitney & Co promoted Kent W. Robinson as a principal of operations and Ryan M. Grand as a vice president of deal generation. Robinson first joined HKW as a vice president of operations in April 2015 while Grand came on board as a manager of deal generation in April 2014.

J.F. Lehman & Co said Glenn M. Shor had been promoted to managing director. David F. Thomas was named vice president while R. Benjamin Hatcher was appointed a senior associate.

Livingstone, the M&A and debt adviser, promoted Neil Smith to director and Harsha Wickremasinghe and Lewis Gray to associate. Smith joined Livingstone in 2013 while Wickremasinghe came on board in 2007 and Gray in 2014.
