Steven St. Peter, M.D. has joined Apax Partners Inc.‘s health care practice in New York as a general partner. Most recently, he was a senior associate with The Carlyle Group focusing on health-care buyouts and venture investing. At Apax, he will focus on early- and mid-stage medical technology companies, including those in the medical device, drug delivery and diagnostics sectors. Since the close of its $1.1 billion sixth fund last year, Apax has invested $90 million in the health-care sector.

Mike Bennett has been named to the mater entrepreneur program AV Labs, an Austin technology incubator and early-stage venture firm affiliated with Austin Ventures. Bennett has long been affiliated with AV Labs, serving on the boards of portfolio companies like Covasoft and IT Newco. His new position will formalize his relationship with the firm, and he will continue to work closely with portfolio companies and their management teams. Previously, he was chairman, CEO and president of Austin Ventures-backed Mission Critical Software.

Cynthia Ringo has joined San Francisco based-Blueprint Ventures as a general partner. She is the former CEO of Blueprint portfolio company CopperCom, a provider of telecommunications solutions for the local exchange. She will remain the company’s chairman. Ann Zeichner joins the firm as a venture partner. Most recently, she was the founding vice president of sales and marketing for DSL provider NorthPoint Communications.

Jonathan Spencer has joined Copan, a Seattle-based venture firm, as an associate. There, he will scout and evaluate investment opportunities in a corridor that reaches from the Pacific Northwest to the San Francisco Bay Area. He will also assist the firm’s portfolio companies with their international expansion strategies. Spencer was previously a manager of business and financial strategies at Snyder Communications.
