Martha Dennis has been named a venture partner at Winward Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm based in San Diego. Dennis is the former founder, president and chief executive of WaveWare Communications. Winward Ventures primarily focuses on investments in communications, opto-electronics, semiconductors, Internet infrastructure, software and medical devices.

Tom Hoops, Carolyn Hoopes, Bharat Vijay and Sue Schwein have been appointed to the management team at Wachovia’s Strategic Ventures Group. Wachovia Corp. was formed as a result of the merger between First Union and Wachovia earlier this year.Hoops, formerly an investment partner with First Union’s eVentures Group, has been promoted to chief investment officer of the Strategic Ventures Group. Former portfolio partners Hoopes and Vijay will now make investments as full-fledged partners with the Strategic Ventures Group. Schwein will retain her position as director of policy, research and communications. Wachovia’s Strategic Ventures arm invests in enterprise applications and integration, Web services, business process management, security and analytics.

Kenneth B. Lee Jr. has been appointed to the position of president at A.M. Pappas & Associates, a venture capital firm focused on life sciences plays. Lee is the first to hold the president’s position at the Research Triangle Park, N.C.-based firm. His appointment is effective Jan. 1. Lee joins A.M. Pappas from Ernst & Young, where he was managing director for the firm’s health sciences corporate finance group.

John Seminerio, Wilson Lee and Bob Campbell have signed on as entrepreneurs-in-residence at Ventures West of Vancouver, Canada. Seminerio is the former president and CEO of Abatis System Corp. Lee is the former CFO of FloNetwork Inc., and Campbell hails from the telecommunications group at Mobile Data Solutions Inc.
