Steven Berger has been named vice chairman and CFO of Weld North, a consumer-focused investment platform recently launched by KKR and former Kaplan CEO Jonathan Grayer. Berger is the former head of Lehman Brothers Merchant Banking, and most recently was founding partner of Richmond Park Partners.

James Chapman has joined the Foley & Lardner LLP, as a Silicon Valley-based partner in law firm’s private equity and venture capital practice group. He previously was a partner with Nixon Peabody LLP.

Renny DiPentima, former president and CEO of SRA International (NYSE: SRX) has joined Providence Equity Partners as a senior advisor. He will focus on the government information services sector, and serve on the board of Providence portfolio company Altegrity Inc.

Seth Gardner, a former managing director in the private equity group of Cerberus Capital Management, has been named executive director of the new Center for Financial Excellence at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.

Eugene Gorbach and Roy Seroussi of Arsenal Capital Partners have been promoted to vice president and senior associate, respectively. Gorbach focused on the financial services sector, and joined Arsenal in 2008 from American Capital. Seroussi focuses on the chemicals sector, and joined Arsenal in 2008 from Credit Suisse.

Gerd Haeusler is leaving RHJ International, in order to become CEO of troubled German bank BayernLB.

Earth Capital Partners, a private equity firm focused on renewable energy, has hired a sustainable agriculture and forestry investment team from IBIS Capital Management and EMP Global. It includes: Bosworth Monck, Richard Smith and Gabriel Montana.

Pinal Nicum has joined Adams Street Partners as a London-based partner on the firm’s secondary team. He previously was with Coller Capital.

Jim Nussle has joined the advisory board of Avista Capital Partners. He is a former Iowa congressman who served as Director of the White House Office of Management and Budget from 2007 to 2009, and currently runs his own consultancy.

Annie Paydar of The Carlyle Group has been named the London-based head of human resources for the European and MENA regions. She previously led HR activities for the firm’s New York office.

Robert Rayne of LMS Capital PLC, a listed U.K. buyout firm, has been appointed to succeed Jonathan Agnew as Chairman. Payne was previously a director at energy-focused buyout firm First Reserve Corp.Tom Renyi has joined CVC Capital Partners as a senior advisor. He recently retired as chairman of The Bank of New York Mellon Corp., after also having served as its chief executive.

Anthony Salewski and Robert Rutledge of Genstar Capital have been promoted to the position of vice president. Both had previously been senior associates.

John Thornton has joined Tregaron Capital as a partner, with a focus on the firm’s mezzanine debt business. He previously was a partner with Pacific Community Ventures and, before that, was a principal with American Capital Strategies.

Natalie Tydeman and Vikram Krishna of GMT Communications Partners have been promoted to partner and principal, respectively. Tydeman joined the European private equity firm in 2007 as a senior associate, after having run business development for Fremantle Media. Krishna joined in 2005 as a portfolio reporting analyst.

Vestar Capital Partners recently promoted nine professionals. Among the group, Evan Marks, Brendan Spillane and Oussama Takla were promoted to managing director.

Christian Voss has joined placement agency Atlantic-Pacific Capital as a partner in the firm’s Direct Private Placements Group. Voss is the former head of Private Capital Markets for Cantor Fitzgerald in New York and London.

Carla Zilka, founder of NexGen Advisors, has joined the advisory board of Hudson Clean Energy Partners.
