Jeb Miller has joined ComVentures as a partner. He will focus his investments on communications, security, software, systems and storage sectors. He previously was with Worldview Technology Partners, which late last year promoted him to the position of principal. Prior to Worldview, Miller co-founded Morgan Stanley Technology Ventures, where he focused on the data center infrastructure and storage sectors. He was previously director of business development for Scient, an Internet consulting firm, where he launched and managed the firmĂ­s corporate venture arm.

Steve Sommer has joined Advanced Technology Ventures as an entrepreneur-in-residence focused on the software and IT infrastructure industries. He most recently served as president and CEO of Airprism Inc., which was acquired in October by WaveLink Corp.

David Milne has joined SV Life Sciences as a general partner, according to published news reports. He previously served as vice president of corporate business development for Boston Scientific Corp. (NYSE: BSX).

The California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) elected Charles Valdes as chair of its investment committee, and Geoge Diehr as vice chair. Valdes has been a CalPERS board member since 1984, and is an attorney with the California Department of Transportation. Diher joined the board in 2003, and is a professor of management sciences at Cal State San Marcos.
