Michael Aiello has joined Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP as a partner in the M&A group of the firm’s corporate department. He previously was with Dewey Ballantine.

Mark Austin has joined Piper Jaffray as a managing director of the firm’s Private Capital team. He previously was a managing director with FAF Advisors.

Bayside Capital LLC, the distressed debt affiliate of H.I.G. Capital, has promoted Lewis Schoenwetter to managing director.

Rod Boone has joined DW Healthcare Partners as an operating partner. He previously served as president and CEO of Royce Medical Holdings, a PE-backed orthopedics manufacturer (sold in August 2005 to Ossur for $216 million).

Harold Bradley has agreed to join The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation as chief investment officer, effective Feb. 1, 2007. He currently serves as American Century Investment’s CIO for U.S. growth equity mid-market/small-cap.

John Browne has joined Apax Partners as non-executive chairman of its advisory board. Browne announced last week that he would step down as CEO of BP PLC in July.

The Carlyle Group has promoted 34 professionals to senior positions, 16 to managing director and 18 to principal/director. They are: Colin Atkins, David Daniel, Marc Demumieux, Yi Luo, Masato Marumo, Eliot Merrill, Charlie Moore, Stephen Owens, Thomas Ray, Lori Sabet, Catherine Simoni, Michael Stewart, Takaomi Tomioka, Alex Wagenberg, Michael Wand and Brent Whisenant. The new principal/directors promoted from vice president/associate director are: Dan Bellissimo, Brian Bernasek, Sameer Bhargava, Han Chen, Jacques Galante, Ryan Harris, Markus Hoffman, Mark Johnson, Horoshi Kawahara, Marilyn Lucas, Andrew Marino, Heather Mitchell, Thaddeus Paul, David Pearson, Nicholas Shao, Koichiro Taniyama, David Willich and Feng Xiao. (Principals and directors are the same level in Carlyle parlance; principal is the title used in the U.S. and director is the title used in Europe and Asia.)

Conduit Capital Partners, a private equity firm focused on the independent electric power industry in Latin America and the Caribbean, has promoted five professionals to partner: Eyob Easwaran, Marc Frishman, Samuel Gomez, Juan Paez and Liliana Rauch.

Dinan & Co. has promoted Tom Main and Jeremy Wallace from senior associate to partner. Both have been with the firm for the past 10 years.

John Edwards has joined U.K.-based Augusta & Co. as a partner focused on mid-market corporate finance. He previously was with Amethyst Corporate Finance.

Energy Investors Funds has promoted Andrew Schroeder from partner to senior partner, and promoted Keith Derman from senior associate to vice president.

Jonathan English has agreed to join Portfolio Advisors, after having spent more than five years with Abbott Capital Management.

Fenway Partners has promoted Aron Schwartz to managing director. He joined the firm in 1999.

HarbourVest Partners has promoted Hemal Mirani to managing director of the firm’s Hong Kong subsidiary, HarbourVest Partners (Asia) Ltd.

ICV Capital Partners has promoted Lloyd Metz to managing director. Metz joined the New York-based firm in 2002, before which he had been a vice president with Warburg Pincus.

Anthony Leung has joined The Blackstone Group as a senior managing director and chairman of the firm’s China efforts. He is the former Financial Secretary of Hong Kong and, before that, held positions with both JP Morgan and Citigroup. Leung will co-head a new Hong Kong office, alongside Ben Jenkins, who will relocate from New York.

Mark Lewis has joined Advantage Capital Partners as a principal. He previously was a partner with Two River Associates.

David Livingstone has been named head of European M&A with Credit Suisse. He previously had served as head of European I-banking with HSBC.

Lovell Minnick Partners has promoted Robert Belke from principal to managing director. He has worked on such deals as Duff & Phelps, PlanMember Financial Corp. and UNX Holdings.

John Madigan has left Madison Dearborn Partners, where he had been serving as a special partner. The move was made to remove possible conflicts of interest related to Madison Dearborn’s interest in Tribune Co., of which Madigan previously served as chairman and CEO. He also is on the board of a foundation that is Tribune’s second-largest shareholder with a 13% stake.

James Matthews has joined Evercore Partners as senior managing director and co-head of private equity. He previously was a general partner with Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe.

Barry Miller has joined Pomona Capital as a partner. He had spent the past six years with AXA Private Equity, where he was head of the firm’s New York office.

Vincent Ng has joined Atlantic-Pacific Capital as a Hong Kong-based director. He previously was a manager with the fund placement advisory group of Deloitte & Touche Corporate Finance in Hong Kong.

Quadrangle Group has made the following promotions: Jeffrey Nordhaud to managing principal; David Crosby, Andrew Frey and Henry Ormond to principal; Stacey Harris, Amanda Siegel and Chun Won Yi to vice president; and Mike Gillin to vice president of fund operations.

Mario Schmidt has agreed to join Willkie Farr & Gallagher as a partner in the firm’s Frankfurt office. He currently is a partner with Clifford Chance, and focuses on European private equity transactions.

Timothy Shriver, chairman of the Special Olympics, has joined the advisory board of Leeds Equity Partners.

TA Associates has promoted five principals to managing director. They are: Jeffrey Barber, Michael Berk, Todd Crockett, Jonathan Meeks and Ajit Nedungadi. The firm also has promoted: CFO Thomas Alter from director to principal, Christian Grüenwald from vice president to principal, Jon Kossow from vice president to principal, Jennifer McAuliffe Mulloy from vice president to principal, Vivian Wu from vice president to principal, Harry Taylor from vice president to senior vice president and Roberto Ramirez from controller to vice president of finance.

Fred Thiel has joined Triton Pacific Capital Partners as managing partner, in charge of a newly-created software and IT group. He previously served as CEO of GameSpy Industries.

Trivest Partners has promoted Forest Wester to the position of principal. He joined Trivest as an associate in 2005, and currently serves on the board of portfolio company Box-Board Products Inc.

Lawrence Tse, a former HP executive who currently serves as an advisor to General Atlantic, has been named acting CFO of fables semiconductor company Vimicro International Corp. (Nasdaq: VIMC).

Warburg Pincus has promoted both David Krieger and Justin Sadrian to the position of partner. Krieger has been with the firm since 2000, and focuses on the energy sector. Sadrian also joined Warburg Pincus in 2000, and focuses on technology, media and telecom opportunities. Both Krieger and Sadrian work out of New York.

Waud Capital Partners has promoted David Neighbours to the position of vice president. He joined the firm in 2003 as an associate, and was later promoted to senior associate. His current board seats include Hospitalists Management Group, Regency Hospital Company and True Partners Consulting.

Tim Whitmire has joined Edgeview Partners as vice president of marketing and communications. He previously headed The Associated Press’ Charlotte, N.C. bureau.

Richard Steinman has joined Greenhill & Co. as a managing director focused on advisory opportunities in the retail sector. He previously led the global retail group at Morgan Stanley.

Ken Yager has joined MorrisAnderson & Associates as a managing director. He previously ran Newpoint Ventures, and before that worked in the equity sponsor business development group of Bank of America.
