Canaan names Mittal managing director

Canaan Partners

has named Alok Mittal as a managing director. Mittal joined Canaan in March 2006 to launch the firm’s Indian office in New Delhi. He invests in digital media, wireless, software and services companies.

Since last year, Canaan has invested in two Indian companies. They are BharatMatrimony, operators of a marriage matchmaking website, and iYogi, a provider of low-cost tech support to global consumers.

Kirtland promotes two

Kirtland Capital Partners, a private equity firm focused on the middle market, announced last week that David Wood and James Foley were each promoted to partner. Wood joined the firm in 1999 and was previously vice president of KeyBank in Cleveland. Foley joined Kirtland in 2000 after having served as a manager in the transaction services group of PricewaterhouseCoopers. Kirtland is currently investing from a $165 million fourth fund it raised in 2002.

Paul Capital appoints Townsend principal
Paul Capital Investments, the private equity fund of funds manager, has appointed Dan Townsend as a principal in the firm’s New York-based office. He will be part of the firm’s co-investment team, headed by Dana O’Brien. Townsend had been a vice president in the international private equity group at GE Asset Management.

Avista hires consultant

Avista Capital Partners, a New York-based private equity firm specializing in investments in the energy, health care and media sectors, has recruited Robin Domeniconi as a consultant to the firm. Domeniconi was previously the president of Time Inc. Media Group.

Allen heads for the Core

Grant Allen

has joined Core Capital Partners as an associate. The Washington, D.C.-based firm raised $200 million for its second fund in 2004. Allen previously held positions at Liberty Associated Partners and Microsoft Corp.

Arsenal names Televantos principal

Arsenal Capital Partners

has promoted John Televantos to principal. He is a veteran specialty chemicals industry executive who joined Arsenal in January 2006 as an executive vice president, after having served as vice president of Hercules Inc.

KKR hires advisor

Richard Clemmer

has joined Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. as a senior advisor. Clemmer most recently was CEO of semiconductor company Agere Systems.

Price joins board of Presidio

William Price

, co-founder of buyout firm TPG, has joined the advisory board of Presidio Financial Partners, a San Francisco-based wealth management firm.
