Advent International has appointed Hanspeter Spek to its operating partner program. Spek, most recently the president of global operations at the French pharmaceutical company Sanofi, will advise Advent’s healthcare team to identify attractive investment opportunities and generate post-investment value in the areas of pharmaceuticals and pharmaceuticals-related services globally.

Blackford Capital said that former Michigan Governor John Engler has joined the advisory board for the Michigan Prosperity Fund, which plans to invest in Michigan private equity. Other newly added members of the board include Mark A. Murray, Mary Petrovich and David L. Porteous. Headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Blackford Capital is a private equity firm that focuses on mid-market manufacturing, distribution and service companies.

Blackstone Advisory Partners, a unit of The Blackstone Group, has named Karl Knapp as a senior managing director. In his new position, Knapp, who is based in New York, will head the group’s global industrial practice. Knapp was most recently head of the global industrials group at UBS and a vice chairman of UBS’ investment banking division.

Doug Pearce, CEO and CIO of British Columbia Investment Management Corp, has decided to retire in 2014, following 25 years with the Victoria-based public pension fund manager. Pearce will continue to lead BCIMC until the board of directors names a successor, which is expected to happen by March 31, 2014. During Pearce’s tenure, assets managed by BCIMC grew to more than $100 billion in 2013 from $15.9 billion in 1988.

Calamos Investments said that James Boyne, the firm’s president and COO, would leave effective Sept. 30. The departure was planned, Calamos said. Calamos said it does not plan to replace the role of president and COO, and Boyne’s responsibilities will be assumed by other senior leaders. Naperville, Illinois-based Calamos is an investment management firm.

CoBe Capital has hired Jose Cabrera-Kabana as a managing director, Europe. Cabrera-Kabana will lead CoBe Capital’s M&A activities in Spain and Portugal. Previously, Cabrera-Kabana was a managing director with goetzpartners corporate finance.

U.S. investment fund Colony Capital named Jean-Romain Lhomme and Nadra Moussalem as co-heads of its European arm to replace Sebastien Bazin, who took the reins of French hotel group Accor, Reuters reported.

Matt Oehlmann has joined Evergreen Pacific Partners as a vice president. Oehlmann will primarily focus on origination throughout Southern California and the West Coast. Most recently, Oehlmann was a vice president at Marlin Equity Partners.

GMT Communications Partners has appointed Jonny Maxwell as senior adviser. Formerly global head of private equity fund-of-funds at Allianz Private Equity Partners, Maxwell had overall responsibility for indirect private equity activities. GMT Communications Partners is a European independent private equity group focused on the media, information, entertainment and telecommunications industries.

Grace Century said that Yeow Fook Leong has resigned as the company’s chief compliance officer and from its advisory board. Leong will now concentrate on his own consultancy firm Tokyo Associates. He will also continue to assist in the international expansion of The Quantum Group and Provia Laboratories, two life sciences projects currently being promoted by Grace Century. Based in Ras Al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates, Grace Century is an International research and private equity firm.

HarbourVest Partners has appointed Olav König as a managing director and head of sales and client service for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. In this role König will expand and enhance HarbourVest’s relationships with investors and their advisers in the EMEA geographic region.

UK-based Inflexion Private Equity has named David Whileman as a partner. Previously, Whileman served as head of UK private equity at 3i, where he was responsible for growth capital and buyout investments.

Insight Equity Holdings, a private equity firm in Southlake, Texas, has added five new hires to its team. Will Dobbs and Jack Nadal have been named vice presidents while Tom Friel, Michael Ogilvie and Robby Myers were named associates.

Buyout firm Nova Capital Management has named Richard Lobo as an investment partner for its North American team based in Chicago. Prior to joining Nova, Lobo worked at CHS Capital where he served as a partner and member of CHS’s investment committee.

Investment firm Pamplona Capital Management has named Rob Mionis operating partner. He will also join the board of directors of Coinmach, which was recently acquired by Pamplona. Prior to joining Pamplona, Mionis was the president and CEO of StandardAero.

The Riverside Company has added two industry veterans as advisers to its European team to help identify investment opportunities and contribute to existing investments. Senior adviser Kai Lucks comes to Riverside after 35 years at Siemens, where he ran businesses in fields ranging from engineering to nuclear power to medical equipment. And Michael Sarp brings to Riverside consumer goods industry expertise having spent his entire career as a consumer goods executive.

Starwood Retail Partners has made three additions to its leadership team in its Chicago office. Tim Lordan has been named senior vice president of asset management IR/JV reporting while Jeff Dyrda is now director of accounting. Also, Steve Barnthouse has been hired as regional director of operations. Starwood Retail Partners is the retail unit of Starwood Capital Group, a real estate investment firm.

Growth equity firm Summit Partners has beefed up its senior healthcare investment team. The firm has named Darren Black as managing director for its Boston office and Thomas Tarnowski as a principal in the firm’s London office. Previously, Black was a managing partner with SV Life Sciences while Tarnowski led Triton’s Nordic healthcare team.

David Ramazetti has joined Vector Capital as managing director of business development. Most recently, Ramazetti was a managing director at Piper Jaffray. Vector Vector Capital, a private equity firm based in San Francisco, seeks to make transformational investments in established technology businesses.
