Avalon Lake Partners, an advisory firm for the alternative asset management industry, has appointed Michael Byl as a director. Byl will manage marketing and client-facing activities, and also work with the compliance team on regulatory issues.

Asset management firm Baird has appointed Jonathan Bourn as a managing director in its European investment banking team in London. Prior to joining Baird, Bourn was a partner at mid-market buyout firm AAC Capital, where he was responsible for originating and executing new investments, managing a portfolio of companies within AAC’s pan-European fund and serving on the fund’s engagement and investment committee.

Evercore Wealth Management has added Allan Kaplan as a managing director and wealth adviser. Kaplan joins Evercore Wealth Management from Merrill Lynch, where he served as an adviser to high net worth families and family offices. Kaplan is based in San Francisco.

The Goldman Sachs Group Inc. has added Adebayo Ogunlesi as an independent director. Ogunlesi is the managing partner and chairman of Global Infrastructure Partners, a private equity firm. Ogunlesi’s appointment expands the board to 11 directors, nine of whom are independent directors. Ogunlesi will be a member of each of the firm’s audit, risk, compensation, corporate governance and nominating committees.

Brian Crabb has joined Golub Capital as a managing director in the firm’s mid-market lending group. Most recently, Crabb was a managing director and team leader for Fifth Third Bancorp.

Gottex Brokers has opened its first office in the United States, focusing on brokerage services in the secondary market for alternative investments through its specialized entity Gottex Brokers Alternative USA. Gottex Brokers Alternative USA, based in Los Angeles, will act as an intermediary between U.S. institutional investors buying and selling secondary interests in hedge funds, private equity funds and real estate funds. The U.S. group will be led by Bruno Bardavid, who previously developed the credit trading markets for Mizuho International and West LB, London.

San Francisco-based technology-focused investment bank J. Moore Partners has expanded to Asia with the opening of a new office in Seoul, Korea. David Oh has been named managing director and will lead efforts in Asia.

The Spaulding Group, a provider of investment performance measurement products and services, has hired Stephen S. Sobhi to the newly created position of vice president, western region sales. Prior to joining TSG, Sobhi was the sales/marketing director at Ashland Partners, another provider of global investment performance standards verification, where he worked for more than 12 years.

U.S. Bank, a provider of wealth management and private banking services, has appointed Michael S. Millman as senior vice president and wealth management adviser for the Private Client Reserve of US Bank in San Francisco. Millman will develop and implement customized investment strategies and plans for high net worth individuals and families, drawing on the resources available through the Private Client Reserve. He previously was a senior vice president and wealth adviser at Wells Fargo Private Bank.

The specialty finance company Victory Park Capital has named Jordan Allen, a 20-plus-year veteran of the hedge fund and private equity industries, as principal and chief operating officer, a new position, effective January 2013. Until December, Allen will remain co-head of North America, chief operating officer and chief financial officer of Man Investments USA.

VTB Capital, an investment bank serving Russian and international markets, has appointed Raza Agha as chief economist for Middle East and Africa. He will be based in London and will report to Alexander Pukhaev and Dmitry Dmitriev, global co-heads of research at VTB Capital, and regionally to Makram Abboud, CEO Middle East & Africa for VTB Capital.
