Apex Fund Services, an independent fund administration company, has named Elliott Brown to be its managing director—Americas. He will be responsible for overseeing the growth of all of Apex’s offices in North and South America. Elliott was formerly with JPMorgan for 18 years, most recently as the managing director responsible for leading the bank’s global hedge fund administration business.

Atlantic-Pacific Capital, the independent placement agent, has added Peter Larsen as principal. He will lead a team that evaluates financial sponsor prospects. Larsen was previously a principal at Hamilton Lane Advisors, where he worked for 11 years.

The law firm Cooley LLP has appointed Wendy C. Goldstein to the firm as a partner in its health care and life sciences regulatory practice. Goldstein, who will be based in Cooley’s New York office, was previously a partner at Epstein Becker & Green.

Don Birchenough is joining Deutsche Bank as a managing director and Americas head of media and telecom mergers and acquisitions. He joins from Credit Suisse, where he was most recently co-head of the technology, media and telecom M&A group in the Americas.

Imperial Capital, an investment banking firm, has hired five equity sales professionals. They are Anthony Greer, managing director; Anthony Reiner, managing director; Philip Minardo, senior vice president; Yves Lefebvre, senior vice president and Dustin Sanza, vice president.

John R. Hempill, Jack Kiley and MaryJeanette Dee have joined the law firm Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP as partners in the firm’s New York office. Hempill joins as a member of the corporate practice group from Morrison Foerster, where he was a former co-chair of the emerging companies and venture capital group. Kiley joins as a member of the Labor and Employment practice group from Kelley Drye & Warren, where he chaired the labor and employment practice group. Dee joins as a member of the business trial practice group from Richards Kibbe & Orbe, where she was a member of the executive committee. Joining Kiley at Sheppard Mullin from Kelley Drye & Warren is a six-attorney labor and employment group.

State Street Corp. has appointed Markus Steiner as head of State Street Global Services’ business in Switzerland. Steiner will assume his new role on July 1, 2013. Steiner most recently served as head of UBS Fund Management Switzerland AG for more than 13 years.

Michael Barry and Robert Hutchinson have joined Sterne, Agee & Leach’s depositary investment banking group. Barry will be based in New York and Hutchinson in the Boston office. Barry joined Sterne Agee as managing director and head of M&A for depository investment banking. Most recently, he was with Stifel Nicolaus Weisel, where he was head of financial institution M&A. Hutchinson joined Sterne as a managing director and head of Northeast coverage for depository investment banking. He is also from Stifel Nicolaus Weisel, where he spent more than 15 years in depositary investment banking.

Wayne Kawarabayashi has joined Union Square Advisors as a partner in the firm’s New York office. Kawarabayashi was most recently a managing director of M&A at Barclays.
