Topspin on the Ball with $20M

The server switch maker Topspin Communications announced today that it has raised $20 million in a Series C at an estimated $100 million valuation.

All investors from prior rounds took part in the latest funding. They include: Accel Partners, Advent International, Duff Ackerman & Goodrich, Presidio Venture Partners and Redpoint Ventures.

To date, the Mountain View, Calif.-based company has raised more than $67 million.

The company’s last round of funding came in 2002 when it secured $30 million.

Topspin, founded in April 2000, is a server switch company that helps data centers manage their computing resources.

Basically, it can interconnect storage, servers and applications, and allows enterprises to use their server resources as a pool.

Ross Schibler and Keith Wilkinson, serial entrepreneurs who previously founded Rapid City Communications and WhiteTree Networks, respectively, founded Topspin. Both founders remain with the company. Schibler is CTO while Wilkinson is vice president of hardware architecture.

Schibler also sits on the board, along with CEO Krish Ramakrishnan; Tom Dyal, managing director from Redpoint Ventures; venture capital consultant Carl Everett; Greg Smitherman, partner at Advent International; and Peter Wagner, general partner from Accel.

The funding announcement comes as company executives say that they expect to make announcements soon about new OEM partners.
