VCs Triple Foreign Investment

U.S. venture firms have been steadily upping their exposure to foreign companies, nearly tripling their investment abroad over the last decade, according to research by Darrel Pinto, Thomson Financials Director of Global PE Performance.

U.S. VCs are investing some 20% of their money into foreign companies, up from less than 7% in 1996, the research shows.

China was the top place for U.S. VCs to put their money in 2006, attracting more than $850 million in investment. The U.K. gets the number two spot with more than $825 million, followed by Indias more than $700 million. Israel took the number 12 spot with just over $200 million invested by U.S. VCs.
