Warburg Pincus plays to media sector strength

Warburg Pincus is acquiring Multikabel, the fourth largest cable operator in the Netherlands, from PrimaCom for an enterprise value of €515m.

The transaction is subject to approval from regulators and other conditions, including consent from PrimaCom’s senior secured lenders and second secured lenders. The works councils from Multikabel and its subsidiary QuickNet have also been asked to give their advice, and their approval is required for completion of the transaction.

The sale will enable Multikabel to pursue its strategy as a regional cable company that provides a full range of television, internet and telephony services to its subscribers.

Warburg Pincus has a track record in media and telecom investing. The firm has invested approximately US$4.5bn in more than 100 telecom, media and media-related businesses. This represents 21% of the total capital invested by Warburg Pincus since the firm’s inception.
