One of the major closings was by Advent International Global Private Equity VII LP. It raised $10.8 billion. Another was by Ares Corporate Opportunities Fund IV LP. The investment vehicle reached its hard cap of $4.7 billion.

Deals Front

Thomson Reuters, the publisher of Buyouts magazine, tracked 1,178 completed transactions involving U.S.-based financial sponsors. Roughly 234 reported financial terms and these have an aggregate value of $93.26 billion. The total covers deals from Jan. 1 through Dec. 10, 2012. The total disclosed valuation came in below the total tally ($121.3 billion) for all of 2011.

The top transaction that involved a LBO-backed business was completed by a special purpose vehicle formed by an investor group that includes Apollo Global Management LLC, Riverstone Holdings LLC and others.  Everest Acquisition LLC acquired EP Energy Corp., a Houston oil and  gas exploration and production company, from El Paso Corp. for about $7.15 billion.
