One of the major recent closings came from Trilantic Capital Partners with its fifth fund reaching a final close at $2.2 billion, exceeding its initial target of $2 billion. Similarly, High Road Capital Partners announced a close on its sophomore fund at its $320 million hard cap, well above its $200 million target.

Thomson Reuters, the publisher of Buyouts, tracked 1,276 completed transactions involving U.S.-based financial sponsors from Jan. 1 through Dec. 13. Roughly 219 reported financial terms for an aggregate value of $140.84 billion. That came in well above the $97.6 billion tally for all of 2012.

The largest transaction that involved an LBO-backed business was completed by Olympus Partners LP’s NPC Quality Burgers Inc, which acquired  54 Wendy’s restaurants from Wendy’s International Inc for $30.4 million in cash.
