Barclays Capital

Also highly commended is Barclays Capital for its efforts to boost deal flow in Europe in 2001. Last year the bank arranged around $4.4 billion in 24 deals. The bank’s increase in deals in 2001 is also down a recruitment drive that took place at the end of 2000 and the beginning of 2001. The bank added to its German and French teams and also took on more staff in London. Landmark deals that Barclays led in 2001 include Ireland’s Eircom, Elf Antargaz in France and Aeroporto di Roma in Italy. The bank also co-led the debt funding of the Yell buyout from BT.
