BBAA news

The British Business Angels Association (BBAA) will hold its 2nd annual conference on June 12 & 13 at Royal Bank of Scotland, 280 Bishopsgate, London and is free to members. At the end of the first evening of this event, the BBAA will host its 2nd sponsored awards at the Great Eastern Hotel in London. The award categories are; Most Exciting New Entrant to the Market (sponsored by Angel News), Most Promising Investment in a Technology Firm (sponsored by E Synergy), Best Syndicated Deal (sponsored by TeChINVEST, the Northwest Regional Development Agency), Business Angel of the Year (sponsored by SEEDA), Best Angel Funded Deal with Young Management (sponsored by Crimson Publishing), and Most Creative Deal Structure of the Year (sponsored by Advantage Business Angels).

The BBAA has also published data on its members activities

during 2005, which includes the fact that 184 businesses were invested in by its members who were part of 17 participating business angel networks. This figure is slightly lower than the previous year when 203 businesses gained angel funding, although above 2003’s figure, which registered just 156 business received funding from 10 business angel networks (although it should be noted that data collection was in its infancy at this point and the number of business angel networks signed up as members of the BBAA significantly lower at this point.)

In 2005 the 184 businesses backed by 17 business angel networks raised a combined total of £28.9m. Of this total £11.5m was invested in the first half of the year.
