Plans one year ago: Bullrun had just been launched in Europe, Asia and North America . The company planned to use the capital for product development and to increase its marketing team.

John Michel, Bullrun’s president and chief executive, expected to see revenue shortly after the deal closed. Bullrun was expected to reach cash-flow by the Q4 2002 and profitability by Q1 2003.

Bullrun’s business plan called for a leap from the Series A directly to an IPO. Michel nevertheless said he would push for an IPO only if the market conditions allowed it.

Status: Soon after its Series A, Bullrun released a new version of its software that allows managers to analyze their portfolio in real-time.

Despite Michel’s expectations, Bullrun did return to the private equity market. In March, the company closed a $3 million Series B round.

In November, Bullrun signed on a partnership agreement with Advent Software Inc., a public company that also specializes in bringing software and data solutions to help the financial users to better manage their portfolio. The two companies agreed to completely integrate their products.

Bullrun brought Jeff Negrete to its team as vice president general manager for software engineering. Prior to joining Bullrun, Negrete helped bring Charles Schwab & Co.’s services online.
