Carlyle sells SmartTrust

US private equity colossus the Carlyle Group has sold its holding in SmartTrust, a UK developer of mobile phone software, to Giesecke & Devrient, a German smart card leader.

Carlyle Europe Venture Partners acquired SmartTrust in October 2002 alongside a consortium of GE and Eqvitec Technology Fund.
