Fortinet buys Woven Systems

Fortinet Inc.

, a Sunnyvale, Calif.-based network security provider, has acquired certain assets and IP of Woven Systems, a Santa Clara, Calif.-based developer of 10 gigabit Ethernet fabric solutions. No financial terms were disclosed. Woven Systems raised $35 million from Mohr Davidow Ventures, Goldman Sachs and Palomar Ventures. Fortinet is in registration for a $100 million IPO and has raised about $83 million in VC funding since 2002 from Redpoint Ventures, Meritech Capital Partners, Acorn Campus Ventures, DCM, Defta Partners and WI Harper Group.

Live Gamer reels in TwoFish

Live Gamer Inc.

, a platform that allows online gamers to buy and sell virtual assets with real money, has acquired TwoFish Inc., a provider of virtual economy data solutions for casual gaming and social application developers. No financial terms were disclosed. TwoFish has raised about $8.5 million from Triplepoint Capital, Rustic Canyon Partners and Venrock. Live Gamer is also venture-backed, having raised more than $26 million in VC funding from Charles River Ventures, Kodiak Venture Partners and FirstMark Capital.

Intel buys RapidMind

Intel Corp. has acquired RapidMind Inc., a Waterloo, Ontario-based developer of a software development platform. No financial terms were disclosed. RapidMind had raised about $10 million in Series A funding from Ventures West Management, EdgeStone Capital Partners and seed backer BDC Venture Capital.

Bayer scoops up Athenix

Bayer CropScience

has agreed to acquire Athenix Inc., a Research Triangle Park, N.C.-based developer of products and technologies for agricultural and industrial applications, such as biofuels. No financial terms were disclosed. Athenix has raised more than $40 million in VC funding from Hunt Ventures, Intersouth Partners and Polaris Venture Partners.

Robert Bosch acquires Akustica

Robert Bosch North America

has agreed to acquire Akustica Inc., a Pittsburgh-based provider of acoustic system-on-a-chip solutions. No financial terms were disclosed. Akustica has raised more than $40 million in VC funding from Rangos Investments and Mobius Venture Capital.
