Fund Notes 04/04/05

Menlo Ventures was expected late last week to close its tenth fund with $1 billion in commitments. It was believed that the firm raised the majority of the fund from existing investors and may have excluded some public pensions over disclosure concerns.

Quantum Energy Partners has committed $50 million to form Rockford Energy Partners II LLC , which will acquire, exploit and produce oil and natural gas properties, with a focus in Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle. The effort will be led by Chuck Perrin , who oversaw existing Quantum portfolio company Rockford Energy Partners I.

The Central Minnesota Growth & Transition Fund LLC has been formed to participate in LBOs, recaps and growth capital deals for Central Minnesota companies in the manufacturing, assembly and distribution industries. Backers include the Minnesota Investment Network Corp. , Kandiyohi Management (affiliate of Quazar Capital Corp. ) and various businesspeople in Willmar, Minn. and surrounding communities. Kandiyohi will manage the fund.

RoundTable Healthcare Partners , a Lake Forrest, Ill.-based private equity firm focused on the healthcare market, has closed its second fund with $500 million in limited partner commitments.

Veronis Suhler Stevenson has raised $221.5 million to date for its VSS Communications Partners IV fund, according to a regulatory filing.

The Carlyle Group has closed its fourth domestic buyout fund Ă³ Carlyle Partners Fund IV Ă³ with $7.85 billion in limited partner commitments. It also closed its second Europe-focused vehicle with about $2.2 billion.

JLL Partners , a New York-based buyouts firm, has raised $634 million out of targeted $864 million for Fund V. The fundĂ­s investors include the Harvard Management Private Equity Corp. , Colorado Public EmployeesĂ­ Retirement Association and Retirement System of Virginia .

Halifax Capital Partners of Raleigh, N.C., raised $72.5 million for Fund II, which is targeted at $300 million. The fundĂ­s investors include Rosebud Partners II , Mellon Bank as a trustee for the Bell Atlantic Master Trust and SunAmerica Inc. The partnership is a buyouts fund.
