Kirkland & Ellis Opens SF Office –

Kirkland & Ellis, the 96-year-old corporate law firm, started off the New Year by opening its first office in San Francisco. This will be K&E’s sixth office worldwide – and the second in California – for the firm.

“This is a move driven by client demand,” said Jeffrey Hammes, a Kirkland senior corporate partner. “A local presence will enhance the service we provide to clients with a presence in the Bay Area.” Kirkland’s West Coast clients include Golden Gate Capital, Bain Capital, Swander Pace Capital, Summit Capital Partners and Gryphon Investors, among others.

Hammes and Stephen Johnson, another senior partner, will manage the firm’s office in downtown San Francisco, and will be joined by four additional partners, including David A. Breach, Stephen D. Oetgen, Karin Orsic and Eric R. Lamison. In addition, 14 associates will staff the firm’s newest office.

Kirkland, with more than 900 lawyers worldwide, handles litigation, transactional, insolvency and intellectual property matters. In addition to New York and San Francisco, the firm also has offices in Chicago, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles and London.
