Robert Barrack has joined New York Life Capital Partners as a managing director and chief operating officer. He has spent the past 12 years with The Blackstone Group, most recently as a managing director of business development and investor relations.

Justin Bastian has joined the Palo Alto, Calif. office of law firm Sidley Austin as a partner. He previously was a partner with Morrison & Foerster.

Carlyle Group has promoted 33 professionals, including the following seven to managing director: Anand Balasubrahmanyan (Asia buyout), Pam Bentley (Accounting), Oussama Daher (European real estate), Shary Moalemzadeh (global distressed and corporate opportunities), Chris Ullman (communications), Stephen Wise (U.S. buyouts) and Alex Ying (Asia buyouts).

Chris Bonfield of Cogent Partners has been promoted to vice president. He joined the firm in 2007 from Bank of America.

Isaac Fehrenbach and David Thacker of Greylock Partners have been promoted to the position of associate partners. Fehrenbach joined the firm in 2003, and focuses on cleantech investments. Thacker joined in 2008, and focuses on consumer and enterprise technology opportunities.

Scott Gable has joined Hercules Technology Growth Capital as chief operating officer. He previously was head of U.S. operations for United Commercial Bank.

Evan Gobdel has joined Chicago-based private equity firm Woodlawn Partners as a partner. He previously was a vice president with Midwest Mezzanine Funds.

Dan Golding has joined boutique investment bank DH Capital as a managing director, with a focus on the Internet infrastructure sector. He previously was a vice president of research with Tier1 Research.

Bill Green has joined Macquarie Group as a senior managing director and head of renewable energy infrastructure investments in North America. He previously was with VantagePoint Venture Partners, where he co-founded the firm’s cleantech practice.

Curtis Hart has joined Industrial Opportunity Partners as director of business development. He previously was with GE Capital. IOP also announced the hiring of David Dorfman as an associate. Dorfman previously was an analyst with Harris Williams & Co.

Neil Harvey has joined Credit Suisse’s asset management group as a managing director and head of Asia-Pacific and emerging markets. He previously was with Renaissance Group as deputy CEO and chairman of international operations.

Niko von Huetz has joined direct secondaries firm Saints Capital as director of European investments. He previously was a partner and investment director with Add Partners.

David Jackson has resigned as CEO of Isthimar World, the investment arm of state-owned Dubai World. He will be replaced by chief investment officer Andy Watson.

Barbara Jones, Stephen Adams and Robert Puopola have joined the Boston office of Greenberg Traurig LLP as shareholders in the law firm’s corporate and securities practice. Jones previously was co-chair of capital markets with McDermott Will & Emery, while Adams and Puopola were with Goodwin Procter.

Scott Miller, CEO of Six Sigma Academy, has joined General Atlantic as a special advisor. He is the former president of Hyatt Hotels Corp. and United Infrastructure Co.

Sean Moriarty and Rajeev Chawla have joined Mayfield Fund as entrepreneurs-in-residence. Moriarty is the former CEO of CEO of Ticketmaster, while Chawla is the former CEO of Neopath Networks (acquired by Cisco).

Alasdair Morrison has joined Citigroup as a senior advisor in Asia. He is the former chairman and CEO of Morgan Stanley Asia.

David Neighbours and Chuck Edwards of Waud Capital Partners have been promoted to partner and principal, respectively. Neighbours joined the firm in 2003 as a principal, while Edwards joined in 2005 as a vice president.

John Novak has joined Paine & Partners as a principal in the firm’s Chicago office. He previously was a vice president with Swander Pace Capital.

Scott Peters and Tolman Geffs have been named co-presidents of JEGI, an investment bank focused on the media and marketing sectors.

Zeena Rao of ICV Capital Partners has been promoted to principal from vice president. She joined the firm in 2001 from Lehman Brothers.

Ryland Reed, co-founding managing director of Point Capital Partners, has joined ComStar Media as executive vice president of business development. He will be charged with raising a $50 million production fund.

Jaime Salter has resigned as CEO of Hilco Consumer Capital. He will be succeeded on an interim basis by Hilco general counsel Eric Kaup.

Jason Santiago has joined middle-market private equity firm Stripes Group as vice president of business development. He previously worked in the private placements group of Cowen and Company.

Brent Saunders has joined General Atlantic as a senior advisor focused on health care. He previously was a senior executive with Schering-Plough, where he served as president of Global Consumer Health Care and Head of Integration for Schering-Plough’s merger with Merck & Co.

Bruce Schulman has joined NGP Energy Technology Partners as a managing director. He previously was with Saw Mill Capital.

Jason Starr of Winona Capital Management has been to vice president. He joined the firm in 2007, and serves as a director of Winona portfolio company Boloco restaurants.

Avie Tevanian has joined Elevation Partners as a managing director. He previously was chief software technology officer with Apple, before which he was VP of software engineering for NeXT Computer.

Peter Tobin, a director at CIT Group Inc., has been tapped to serve as acting CEO of the troubled lender while the board looks for a permanent successor to Jeffrey Peek, who stepped down as chairman and CEO on Jan. 15.

Wendy Webb has joined Tennenbaum Capital Partners as a managing director of investor relations. She previously spent 20 years with The Walt Disney Co., where she served in roles such as executive director of The Walt Disney Company Foundation and senior vice president of investor relations and shareholder services.

Oliver Wriedt has joined Providence Equity Partners as a managing director in the firm’s capital markets group, which invests in the debt of media, communications and information companies. Wriedt was previously a partner at GoldenTree Asset Management LP, where he served as co-head of the firm’s Marketing & Structured Products group from 2004 to 2008.

Malcolm Wright has joined Alvarez & Marsal as a New York-based managing partner in the firm’s transaction advisory practice. He previously was global lead partner in KPMG’s private equity group.

Rich Zannino, a managing director with CCMP Capital and former CEO of Dow Jones & Co., has joined the board of The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. (NYSE: EL).
