Martin Halusa has been chosen to replace Ronald Cohen as chief executive of global private equity firm Apax Partners. Halusa has led the firm?s Munich office since 1990, and will relocate to London. Cohen, who founded the firm, will become executive chairman. The moves become effective on January 1.

Mark O?Connor has been named vice president of business development for the private equity services division of The BISYS Group Inc. (NYSE: BSG). O?Connor most recently served as executive director of CIBC Capital Partners.

Alliant Partners, a Palo Alto, Calif.-based I-banking subsidiary of Silicon Valley Bancshares (Nasdaq: SIVB), has launched a new private capital group that will provide private placement advisory services to later-stage private and small public tech and life sciences companies. Jeffrey Berry, formerly a managing director and head of Banc of America Securities? private equity group, will lead the new business. Alliant also has hired fellow Banc of America Securities transfers Joseph Siletto and Bill Baker.

Scott Singer has been named managing director and head of a newly formed media and entertainment corporate finance group at Deloitte & Touche. He previously was a principal in the firm. In addition, Carolyn Saacke has joined the new practice as a senior vice president.

Mark Foulds has joined European buyout firm Duke Street Capital as a Paris-based director. He joins Duke Street from Bridgepoint in Paris, where he spent seven years leading mid-market transactions.

Lake Capital, a Chicago-based investment firm, named Kathleen Johnston a principal of the firm, after having joined Lake Capital in as a vice president in 1999 and being promoted to director in 2001. Edward Kovas has been named a vice president after having graduated from Harvard Business School. Nicole Theall has been named a vice president, after having joined the firm in 2001 as an associate. Robert Zielinski, a 2003 MBA graduate of the University of Chicago, has joined Lake Capital as an associate. Anthony Broglio Jr. has joined the firm as an associate while also completing his MBA at the University of Chicago. And Nicholas Patrick has joined Lake Capital as an analyst, following two years as an analyst at Lehman Brothers.

Eric Weinstein, who once worked as an analyst with CSFB Private Equity, has been named vice president of strategic planning portfolio company Octave Communications.
