Comments – Alphamosaic Ltd, a “fabless” semiconductor design company, has received an initial £1.25 million investment from Prelude Trust plc. The investment is the first tranche of a £6 million financing package, based on Alphamosaic achieving a number of performance related targets in the next 12 months.

The company, a spin-out from Cambridge Consultants Ltd, an innovations design and development company, will use Prelude’s initial investment to acquire certain intellectual property from Cambridge Consultants.

Alphamosaic, based in Cambridge, designs semiconductors which are used for low power video processors for mobile devices. The company’s product is called VideoCore.

Alan Duncan, director of Prelude Trust, said: “Sending or watching a video on a mobile phone or PDA is an attractive consumer feature and Alphamosaic’s VideoCore technology offers designers the ability to use a flexible, low power specialist processor for such applications.”
