Texas Municipal PE head Schelling to leave

Christopher Schelling will move to Windmuehle Funds, an Austin-based alternative investments manager founded in 2018.

Christopher Schelling, director of private equity at Texas Municipal Retirement System, is leaving the $31 billion pension system, he confirmed to Buyouts in an email. His last day will be March 27.

Schelling will be joining investment advisor Windmuehle Funds as a managing director on April 27, according to a press release. The news was first reported by Institutional Investor.

Schelling has been with Texas Municipal since 2015, according to his LinkedIn profile, and has been a contributing columnist at Institutional Investor since 2017. Before joining Texas, he was the deputy chief investment officer of Kentucky Retirement Systems where he directed absolute and real return programs.

Windmuehle was founded in 2018 by Robert Lee, who previously worked at Texas Tech University and Texas Employees Retirement System. The firm provides “access to differentiated, capacity-constrained private market opportunities.”

Texas Municipal has no successor in place, but Schelling told Buyouts he will help “facilitate a seamless transition over the next month.”
